rgfa theory

Silvered Glass on the RPG.net forums has a remarkably excellent summery of rec.games.frp.advocacy theory discussions. RGFA created what was probably the first coherent critical model of RPGs – a thread that would be later picked up by The Forge and Ron Edwards specifically, though as the thread addresses, many of the terms would undergo some (often ill-defined) shifts in usage, one of the reasons that Forge theory is considered somewhat obtuse.

Useful. Tangential to that, the subject of exclusionary vocabulary among theorists in any subject somewhat interests me. I think it sort of happened as a matter of course in most scientific disciplines, some terms being simply archaic, and others just not mapping very effectively to useful English words. And then I have a suspicion critical theorists either thought it was entertaining or impressive-sounding to develop their own vocabulary.

Either way, some specialized vocab is probably a necessity for developing really abstract models of *anything*. However, if people would (well, for rpg theory, they are) publish their shitz on the web, there are some really easy solutions to this issue in the form of hypertexting and/or providing a goddam glossary.

Basically what I mean is, the world needs more specialist glossaries.

There is, technically, a glossary for the Forge’s Big Theory, but I’m waiting until I understand it and its numerous appendices and linked threads before I post it.
