Money problems at Catalyst.

Catalyst Game Labs, who currently license the Shadowrun and Battletech IP, and additionally publish Eclipse Phase and CthulhuTech, are having some problems.
The official statement:
The result was that business funds had been co-mingled with the personal funds of one of the owners. We believe the missing funds were the result of bad habits that began alongside [...]

So maybe I didn’t mean “tomorrow”.

Anyway, Exalted goes well, or at least I think it’s going well. The 3e game I was playing in has recently switched to 4e, so I’ll be able to give a better player’s-eye perspective on the game. I’m actually looking forward to doing a comparison between them. Exalted thinks it’s a crunchy tactical wargame, but [...]

The Market May Disagree

As a rejoinder to my mixed feelings about 4e, it seems the market has spoken: 4e has already received a second print run and is ranked #5 for preorders on Amazon.com.
If it gets more people into the hobby, that’s good for the hobby.

A slightly early anvil.

So, a friend on the Ziggurat of Doom found an interesting thing.
Word in other fora is that this has been independently confirmed: Wizards is announcing D&D 4th Edition at GenCon.
That’s not really enough information to say much, so I’ll just say this: “Please, in the name of all the gods of gaming, by Vecna, Borgstrom, [...]

What each side gets: White Wolf will be expanding Eve offline, into novels, strategy guides, RPGs, and CCGs. CCP will get White Wolf online, into the MMO market.
Both companies will continue to operate under their current [...]

It releases January 2007.
I’m not a huge Tri-Stat fan, but I’ll take a look.

Industrial grade

Some interesting thoughts on industry sales trends and marketing habits, for your edification.

Hesh fears for life!

Quick background: Very Soon Now, White Wolf will be releasing the newest World of Darkness 2 game, Prometheans: The Created, featuring golems and constructs of various types.
There is, reportedly, an ad in the back for the 2007 WoD2 game.
They’re bringing back Changeling.
I’d like this to be good news, but I’m not sure it is.

Official: Guardians of Order is dead

Mark MacKinnon, CEO of Guardians of Order, has finally (after a LOT of rumors and speculation) made a public statement about the status of GoO.
Citing a combination of a general downturn in the RPG market with a harsher US/CAN exchange rate (GoO was based in Canada) as the major factors in the company’s demise, he [...]
